The Morrison Hiking Trail is an 11 miles hiking loop in Warren County, PA. It is part of the larger Morrison Trail Network. The trail is lauded as one of Pennsylvania Wilds's finest overnight backpacking destinations for its well-marked trails and serene forest views. The trail consists of two hiking loops, the Morrison and Rimrock Loops, with a connector trail stretching between them. The shorter of the two, The Morrison Loop, starts at the trailhead and heads south to meet up with the next loop. The longer of the two, the Rimrock Loop, heads west-southwest from its intersection with the Morrison Loop. It meanders past the Allegheny Reservoir and the Morrison Campground, which has toilets and facilities for hikers and trail users. Leave the trail and head to the rocky beach for some nice views. The Rimrock Loop follows the lake shore quite closely at places with plenty of stream crossings. It is recommended that trail users stay "high and dry" and avoid depressions in the trail surface.
Overall, The Morrison Hiking Trail punches well above its weight. It is highly recommended for outdoor-oriented families as it showcases the Allegheny National Forest's natural beauty and offers users quiet remoteness without much struggle or effort. The trail crosses many streams in its west-southwest section and many users report wet conditions in the days after rain events, so be prepared to get wet. Camping and facilities for users are available at the Morrison Campground. As always, be sure to properly hang food bags if primitive camping. In the wetter sections bugs can become an issue. Users report bringing sunglasses to keep bugs from their eyes during these spots.
